New Clients

Prepare for your New Client visit

When you are preparing your pet for their visit, please keep the following in mind:

  1. If available, please bring any previous health records for the patient. If you don’t have the records, your previous veterinarian or animal shelter can send them to us at GreenAcres@buffaloveterinarygroup.com
  2. Our new clients should prepare a list of questions. We are here for you, and nothing is too simple. We are happy to share advice on behaviors, food recommendations, grooming, etc.
  3. Make the most out of your new client visit! If your pet needs a nail trim or an ear cleaning this is the perfect time to get the service taken care of.
  4. Please bring all medications, supplements, including flea & tick and heartworm preventative, with you to the appointment.
  5. Your pet may be anxious or nervous as soon as they enter our building, or an exam room. This is completely normal and we will do our best to keep them calm during their visit through our fear free methods that prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets. The over stimulation can exert a lot of energy from your pet. It’s normal for them to sleep or have a decreased amount of energy for the remainder of the day once they get back home.
 

After the new client visit we recommend a regular appointment schedule to maintain your pet’s preventative care and health needs.

Recommendations of the AVMA and AAHA, BVG include the following standards of care:

  1. DA2PP (Distemper Combo) – vaccinate twice, 3-4 weeks apart, (May need additional boosters every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age) booster in 1 year, then booster every 3 years.
  2. Leptospirosis vaccine – vaccinate twice, 3-4 weeks apart, then give annually.
  3. Rabies vaccine – one year booster, then every 3 years.
  4. Lyme vaccine – vaccinate twice, 3-4 weeks apart, then give annually.
  5. Kennel Cough vaccine – annually when boarding or if lifestyle dictates.
  6. Infectious disease testing with age specific wellness bloodwork annually.
  7. Heartworm prevention year-round.
  8. Flea and tick prevention year-round.
  9. Broad spectrum deworming or fecal antigen testing annually.
  10. Spay/Neuter
  11. Microchip

Recommendations of the AVMA and AAHA, BVG include the following standards of care:

  1. FVRCP (Feline Distemper Combo) – vaccinate twice, 3-4 weeks apart, (May need additional boosters every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age) booster in 1 year, then booster every 3 years.
  2. Rabies vaccine – give annually (Purevax).
  3. FeLV vaccine – every kitten, then annually based on lifestyle.
  4. FeLV/FIV test as kitten, when adopted, and whenever sick, then test annually on all cats that go outside.
  5. Age specific wellness bloodwork test annually.
  6. Flea/tick prevention year-round.
  7. Heartworm prevention year-round.
  8. Fecal or broad spectrum deworming annually unless going outside, then every 3 months.
  9. Spay/Neuter.
